Newcastle University’s Open Research Award Special Commendations for the team
We are happy to share that our interdisciplinary team has received Special Commendations Award at the University of Newcastle’s Open Research Award. Social scientist Lenka Pelechova, software engineer Leanne Hobbs, synthetic biologist Nadia Rostami and doctoral student at PEALS research centre Natalie Partridge worked together on the entry to the competition titled: ‘Version control for cell engineering – new processes & tools for more open and trustworthy engineering biology’.
‘CellRepo‘ is an online strain and species database that allows monitoring, organising, and tracking of engineered cell lines. This global repository of engineered organisms not only increases efficiency in the laboratories and promotes collaborations, but it also makes engineering biology more transparent and open from the onset.
Here is what the panel commented: ‘This case study gave an excellent account of how this innovative open approach would increase public trust in research in a discipline where this is vital.’
